How it Works

The Elementary Mathematics Endorsement courses at Utah State University are a unique program designed to strengthen K-6 classroom teachers' knowledge of mathematics content and assessment. The 18-credit program includes six three-credit courses designed to specifically meet the Utah State Board of Education recommendations. This program of high-quality courses is aimed at improving mathematical knowledge for teaching at the Elementary level. All of the courses are available 100% online allowing working professionals to complete coursework when it is most convenient for them.

  • TEAL 6524 - Geometry & Measurement

    To provide practicing teachers a deeper understanding of the geometry and measurement context that exists in the state core and instructional strategies to facilitate the instruction of this content.

  • TEAL 6525 - Data Analysis & Problem Solving

    This course will provide practicing teachers a deeper understanding of probability and data representation and analysis.

  • TEAL 6521 - Numbers & Operations

    This course, for K-8 teachers, will cover the content of Number and Operations to develop comprehensive understanding of our number system and relate its structure to computation, arithmetic, algebra, and problem solving.

  • TEAL 6522 - Rational Numbers & Proportional Reasoning

    To provide practicing teachers a deeper understanding of rational numbers, operations with rational numbers, and proportionality, and instructional strategies to facilitate the instruction of this content for elementary students.

  • TEAL 6523 - Algebraic Reasoning

    To provide practicing teachers a deeper understanding of algebraic expressions, equations, functions, real numbers, and instructional strategies to facilitate the instruction of this content for elementary students.

  • TEAL 6551 - Assessment & Intervention

    To provide practicing teachers a deeper understanding of the various types of assessment and their appropriate use for guiding instruction, intervention and evaluation of student learning.

  • K-6 classroom teachers interested in obtaining an elementary mathematics endorsement
  • Special Education teachers who are especially interested in mathematics instruction
  • Mathematics coaches and leaders and those working towards these positions
  • Master's degree-seeking teachers who would like to use the endorsement courses as their area of emphasis
* This is a program for individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree. Undergraduates can earn a level 2, 3, or 4 endorsement.
